CBI torture drove Bansals to death: Suicide notes
Published on:

If the suicides notes left by former Director General Corporate Affairs BK Bansal and his son Yogesh are to be believed, they ended their lives following the systematic and sustained humiliation and torture by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials involved in the probe against him. Bansal had name four officials — Sanjeev Gautam, the DIG, women officers Rekha Singh, Amrita Kaur and a head constable — in his suicide notes. His son had identified one more officer in addition to four officers already named by his father in his suicide note.

Stung by the allegations against the team of officers who were probing Bansal, the CBI on Wednesday ordered an internal enquiry to determine whether the contents of the purported suicide notes are true. Press Information Officer (PIO) of CBI RK Gaur said that they have received communication from the Delhi Police in this regard which includes the purported hand written notes of BK Bansal and his son Yogesh Bansal. Gaur said the communiqué contains allegations against certain CBI officials in connection with the ongoing bribery investigation against Bansal and others.

“We have examined the matter and decided to probe the allegations. The CBI is fully committed to conduct investigation in a fair and professional manner without harassment to any one and strictly within the parameters of law. If any violation is established during the probe, strict action will be taken against the CBI officials concerned. A competent court will be informed,” added the PIO.

In the suicide notes (copy of which is in the possession of The Pioneer), BK Bansal alleged, “A CBI DIG, two women officers and a “fat” Havaldar had brought immense pressure on them and tortured them mentally. My wife Satyabala and daughter Neha had committed suicide on July 22 last after they could not bear the ignominy and humiliation heaped upon them by the CBI officials.”

Bansal had written a five-page note while his son Yogesh left a two-page note, dated September 26, 2016.

The suicide notes were recovered by East district police from the flat of Bansals situated in Neelkanth apartments in Patparganj area.

Bansal had mentioned in his suicide note that his wife and daughter had shared the details of “torture” with friends and neighbours before they decided to kill themselves. Balsal had also mentioned that the CBI DIG boasted to him that he was close to a very powerful politician and he could do whatever he wanted to.

“My wife and daughter were not only abused but slapped repeatedly by the women officers. Even the DIG abused her over phone and threatened to torture me when I was in CBI custody,” says the note. “Even if I was at fault in the case, why were my wife and daughter pushed to the brink by the CBI officialsIJ” Bansal had asked in his suicide note.

“This cannot be termed as suicide. It is a murder of two ladies. The DIG and the “fat” Havaldar should be subjected to lie detector test to know the truth,” Bansal had written.

The former DG Corporate Affairs also urged the Director CBI to order a probe in the matter as he was threatened by the DIG before the suicide of his wife and daughter that “they will be subjected to such a torture that they will ask for death but won’t get it”.

While Bansal accused the DIG and the two women officers, he had a word of praise to the Investigating Officer (IO) for assuring him that no harm will come to him.

In his suicide note, Yogesh had alleged that the five CBI officers, including the DIG, had “unofficially and off the record tortured him, his mother and his sister”. “I was unofficially subjected to mental and physical torture to an extent that I am left with no other options than to take such a step,” says Yogesh suicide note.

“My mother and my sister were against suicide but they were tortured to such an extent that they took the step,” he alleged, adding that they were “murdered” by CBI officers and “supported by a neighbour who made fun of their situation”.

Bansal had allegedly hanged himself along with his son at their residence barely two months after his wife and daughter ended their lives following his arrest in connection with the alleged corruption case. Bansal was arrested by the anti-corruption unit of the CBI on the charges of taking a bribe of Rs 9 lakh in a Delhi hotel on July 17 last. CBI had claimed to have recovered cash and other items during the probe.
