Delhiites faced another hot day of the season as the Capital sizzled at 43.7 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. However, people can expect some relief as weathermen predicted showers with thunderstorm in next two days thus reducing the temperature by four degrees Celsius.

Though the India Metrological Department (IMD) said that overall maximum temperature in Delhi settled at 44 degrees Celsius, other weather monitoring agencies, like Skymet, showed maximum temperature hovering around 46 degrees Celsius. In a weekly weather report, Met department officials confirmed that maximum temperature will oscillate around 43-44 degrees Celsius. However minimum temperature will remain at 27 degrees Celsius.

While the maximum temperature settled at 43.7 degree Celsius at Safdarjung observatory, the minimum temperature settled at 26.4 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season’s average, as per the IMD data. According to a MeT department official, relative humidity was recorded at 15 per cent.

RK Vishan, Scientist and Group Captain, Delhi wing of IMD, said that there is the possibility of thunderstorm with rain from Friday onwards. “The maximum temperature will be reduced by four to six degrees Celsius in coming week,” said Vishan.

Illustrating about weather conditions in May, Vishan said in May, the maximum temperature normally remains at 39.6 degrees Celsius and minimum temperature at 25.9 degrees Celsius. “In 1994, mercury crossed 45 degrees Celsius. On May 27 that year, the highest maximum temperature was recorded which was 47 degrees Celsius,” said the scientist.
