Capital shame: 2 kids gangraped

The grisly sexual assault on two children in the national Capital has triggered outrage and a political slugfest. In the first incident, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was gangraped after being abducted by two bikers from near her house in West Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area on Friday night. The battered girl, bleeding profusely, was later found in a park, 300 metre away from her home. The accused are absconding.

In the second incident, a five-year-old girl was gangraped by three people — her house owner, a co-tenant and a common friend of theirs — in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar on Friday night. Victim’s co-tenant Prakash (26) lured the girl to get out of her house and then took her to a second floor flat where he along with his house owner Sitaram (38) and their common friend Rewati (35) raped her. Hearing the cries of the victim, locals gathered at the crime scene and caught the accused red-handed. The locals beat the accused black and blue before handing them over to the police.

Senior Special Commi-ssioner of Police Deepak Mishra (law & Order) told The Pioneer that three people have been arrested in Anand Vihar’s incident and the police are doing their best to nab the accused in Nihal Vihar rape case.

According to the grandmother of the two-and-a-half-year-old victim, as they were standing outside their house at Shivram Park in Nihal Vihar around 11.30 pm, her granddaughter suddenly started stepping towards Ramlila venue nearby. By the time her grandmother could stop her, there was a power cut. Taking advantage of the darkness, the two bikers abducted the girl.

The grandmother informed the family members, who approached police and lodged a kidnapping case at Nihal Vihar police station around 12.45 am. During the search by family and police, the girl was spotted lying unconscious at a park located half a kilometre away from their residence. She was bleeding profusely. She was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where her condition is stated be critical but stable.

Police have recovered CCTV footage from the locality showing two men without helmets taking away the girl on a motorcycle. The angry family members and residents blocked the road on Saturday and protested against police. They demanded the arrested of accused persons and swift action in the case.

The horrific incidents have triggered political mud-slinging with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accusing the police of being a complete failure in providing security to women. He wrote to the PM asking him to handover the Delhi Police to the State Government. “PM sir, give control of Delhi Police to the Delhi Government for one year. If situation does not improve, take it back...Seeking time to meet lG and PM to discuss women’s safety in Delhi,” Kejriwal said in a series of tweets.

The lieutenant Governor has called a high-level meeting with Kejriwal and Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Sunday to discuss deteriorating law & order situation in the national Capital.

Earlier this month, a four- year-old girl was allegedly raped in Delhi’s Keshav Puram area. She had been found lying in the bushes near a railway line, when she was found by a passer-by. She had gone missing from outside her house.
