Bullets will be met with cannon balls: PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Saturday said ‘sindoor’ has become a symbol of valour following India’s response to the Pahalgam terror attack and warned Pakistan that bullets will be answered with cannon balls.

“Sindoor has now become a symbol of valour in the country. If you fire bullets, then rest assured that they will be answered with cannon balls,” Modi said at the Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai women empowerment mega convention on the occasion of the legendary queen’s 300th birth anniversary.

The Prime Minister’s powerful statement underscored his belief in women’s strength and role in shaping India’s future, as he emphasised the transformative role that women play in the country’s development.

Prime Minister used the symbolism of ‘sindoor’ to further reinforce his message, connecting it to India’s recent military actions.

“Just as Hanuman adorned himself with ‘sindoor’ in the tradition, it now stands as a symbol of valour. It is offered in worship, representing the power of women. Today, the ‘sindoor’ has become a symbol of the nation’s strength,” he said. Modi’s comments also connected the symbolism to India’s recent military action, particularly Operation Sindoor, where India decisively confronted terrorism. He further said, “Today, the world is witnessing the strength of India’s daughters in national defence. Over the past decade, the Government has taken several steps in this direction. From schools to the battlefield, the nation now places unprecedented trust in the bravery of our daughters. For the first time, our armed forces have opened the doors of Sainik Schools to girls. Before 2014, only 25 per cent of NCC cadets were girls now that number is moving toward 50 per cent.”

Referring to the attack in Pahalgam, the Prime Minister stated, “The terrorists not only spilled blood but also tried to strike at our culture. The attack was an affront to our society and to the very power of our women. The action taken by India has made it clear that terrorism will no longer be tolerated.” Modi’s speech at the conclave also celebrated India’s growing achievements in science and technology. “In all of India’s major space missions, women scientists are playing an essential role. In Chandrayaan-3, over 100 women scientists and engineers were involved. Women are not just empowering themselves; they are empowering the country,” he said.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the historical and cultural legacy of Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, whose life and work have become a symbol of leadership and strength. He stated, “Devi Ahilyabai Holkar was a protector of India’s heritage. When our temples and cultural sites

were under attack, she stepped forward to preserve and restore them, showing that with determination, one can overcome any adversity.”

Continuing his homage to Ahilyabai, he added, “She remains an inspiration to every woman, showing us that leadership comes from inner strength and the will to serve others. Ahilyabai’s life teaches us that no matter how tough the circumstances, determination can turn challenges into achievements.”

Prime Minister also participated in a road show upon his arrival in Bhopal, where he greeted thousands of supporters. The Chief Minister Mohan Yadav accompanied him during the event. Modi’s road show culminated at the Jamboree Ground, where he delivered his address on women’s empowerment, reiterating the importance of empowering women for the nation’s development.

In a significant move to recognise women’s leadership, the entire event was managed by female officers and staff. From security to event organisation, women played a central role in executing the mega conclave. Modi also acknowledged the 15,000 women dressed in Sindoor-coloured sarees who came together to welcome him, representing their deep connection to Operation Sindoor and the empowerment of women.

In a symbolic gesture of women’s growing role in leadership, a female pilot flew the aircraft carrying the Prime Minister from Datia. Modi’s visit highlighted the nation’s commitment to empowering women and recognising their contributions across all sectors. His message was clear: India’s future lies in the hands of its women, and the country stands firm in protecting its sovereignty and heritage, sending a strong message to external threats.
