In a heroic act, a 21-year-old braveheart in South Delhi’s posh Vasant Kunj not only managed to free herself from the clutches of her future kidnappers despite being dragged into the Maruti 800 car, but also caught hold of one of them, handing him over to police.
It was on Saturday evening, when Seema — returning home from Vasant Kunj-located beauty salon where she works as a beautician — was accosted by a drunken man who touched her inappropriately and tried to force her into the car parked nearby where another man was sitting.
Seema anyhow managed to free herself from his clutches and ran towards the beauty parlour, 100 metres from the spot.
Calling out her colleagues, she managed to catch hold of one of the accused. And as the crowd swelled, other man fled from the spot in the car. After being caught, the accused begged Seema’s pardon, said sources. The entire incident was caught on CCTV cameras.
Seema’s father Raam Raj told The Pioneer, “This is not the first time that an incident like this has happened. Drunken men from the adjoining areas roam in the evening, stalking women. Three to four incidents have happened recently. My daughter was lucky as she could get help on time from her colleagues. You know, the man first asked my daughter if she knew any woman by the name Seema who works in the beauty parlour. It was only after which, he tried to abduct her.”
The Delhi Police on Sunday said they arrested 22-year-old Rohit Chaudhary, who was apprehended on Saturday and impounded the car used in the crime. His associate has been identified and will be arrested soon, an official said.
Chinmoy Biswal, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) said, “Based on the woman’s complaint, a case has been registered at the Vasant Kunj North police station.”
