In a proof of dog’s steadfast loyalty towards its master, a one-and-a-half-year-old canine took on a dozen armed assailants to save his owner. Despite being stabbed thrice in the fight, the dog stood up for his 58-year-old master, Rakesh Kumar, who was attacked by a gang of robbers outside his house in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on October 12 night, police said on Monday.
Recalling the harrowing incident that his father — Delhi’s sanitation worker — faced, Kumar’s son Ajay said, “Had it not been our pet dog Tyson, my father would have been dead. Tyson, who was stabbed thrice by the robbers, pounced upon the assailants to save my father, who was stabbed for resisting the robbery bid outside the house. Hearing the dog’s bark,
neighbours turned up and nabbed three of the robbers on the spot.”
The robbers were handed over to police who reached the spot after being informed by the residents.
“As I stepped outside my room, I heard Tyson barking. When I rushed out, I saw locals had gathered outside. And to my utter shock, I saw my father lying on the ground and bleeding from his stomach. Tyson too was bleeding. My neighbours told me that a group of 12 men had attacked my father,” said Ajay.
Narrating the sequence of the attack, Kumar said, “They had come with the intention of committing robbery at our house. On seeing me, they started threatening me to give away all cash. When I resisted, one of them stabbed me in the stomach. Tyson, who was sitting nearby, grew suspicious and attacked them. It kept on attacking the robbers despite being stabbed. My pet was unrelenting in its bid to save me. Our neighbours too came forward.”
On being asked if police were helpful, Ajay said, “We dialled 100 six times but all in the vain. The police team came very late. By that time, I had rushed my father to the nearest hospital where he was treated and discharged on Monday afternoon. We took Tyson to a nearby vet. The pet has been administered injections and pain killers and is now fine.”
Police are looking for the rest nine robbers.
