A Bengaluru-based IT professional MG Gokul (30) — arrested for making hoax bomb threat calls to Bengaluru and Delhi international airports last Saturday — now also faces charge of killing his wife in July 2015, according to Bengaluru Police Commissioner NS Megharikh.

Police said during the interrogation, Gokul also confessed to murdering his wife, Anuradha, by hitting her on the head with a statue of lord Ganesha.

“Gokul, a native of Thrissur in Kerala, used a phone registered in the name of a friend Saju Jose (to make hoax calls). Gokul was allegedly in love with his wife and hence made hoax calls and (sent) WhatsApp messages from his mobile to land the man in trouble. He wanted to marry his friend’s wife,” said police.

But things didn’t go as per his wishes.  Gokul’s role only came to the fore after police questioned his friend, the police commissioner said. later, police home in on Gokul and cracked the case.

It is understood that the hoax calls made by Gokul had led the officials to cancel three flights costing nearly a million dollars, the police chief said. Moreover, to confuse police, his hoax messages and calls referred to ISIS.

Following the hoax calls, two international flights were called back, a third one, preparing for departure from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, was taken to an isolation bay.

The caller had falsly claimed that there were bombs on three international flights — 9W078 of Jet Airways to Hong Kong, CX694 of Cathay Pacific also bound for Hong Kong, and lX147 of Swiss Air to Zurich.
