Thousands of commuters of Delhi Metro had a harrowing experience during peak evening hours on Wednesday as a major technical fault disrupted Metro services on the Dwarka-Noida/Vaishali Blue line.
Scores of people returning from their offices were stranded when an overhead electric cable broke down between the Yamuna Bank-Indraprastha stretch. Although full services were restored after one-and-a half hours, stations like Rajiv Chowk and Barakhamba were chock-a-block.
It was for the first time that an Overhead Electrification (OHE) wire snapped in the Delhi Metro service ever since its inception. The snag-prone 44 km Dwarka-Noida/Vaishali line (line 3) caters to about eight lakh commuters daily and Wednesday’s incident left people panicky leading to chaos at several stations.
