A 17-year-old visually-impaired girl was raped in her rented accommodation in lajpat Nagar residential colony of Ghaziabad on Wednesday, police said on Sunday. Her ordeal did not end here, her landlord, who did not want to involve in legal tangle, threw her out of room after the incident. The shocking saga of the minor girl, who had lost her father 10 days back, came to light on Friday night when she was found crying near a temple in Mohan Nagar area by a tea vendor, police added.

She narrated her ordeal to the tea vendor who took her to police. Police referred the victim to Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for further counselling and shelter.

During the counselling, the traumatised girl broke down and narrated that that she originally belonged to Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. She has been living alone in a rented accommodation in the lajpat Nagar residential colony after her father died about 10 days ago.

On Wednesday night, a boy, who came on a motorcycle, barged into her room and raped her twice. After committing the crime, the intruder fled the spot and bolted her inside the room from outside, she said. later after gaining consciousness, she raised an alarm. Hearing her cries, the landlord opened the door. However, when she told him about the crime, the landlord asked her to approach police but before that vacate the room, CWC Counsellor Shalini Singh told The Pioneer.

Shalini Singh further said that when the victim asked about her belongings, the landlord said the household articles would be sold to adjust three months’ rent dues. The hapless blind girl did not find any shelter and reached near the Parswanath temple, she added.

On Friday night, a tea vendor heard her cries and asked her about her ordeal. When she narrated him about shocking incident, he took her to police which sent her to CWC.

The victim further revealed that her mother had died when she was a child. Her father had enmity in the village so he left the village with his girl and started a new life in Mumbai. There in Mumbai, she suffered a medicine reaction so she became blind. There somebody told her father that All India Institute of Medical Sciences is the best place for eye treatment so her father shifted from Mumbai to Ghaziabad a year ago and started living here in the rented accommodation. Here her father started working some small job so that they could earn bare means of livelihood.

Her father died about 10 days ago. The neighbors cremated her father. After father’s death, she was living alone in that one-room rented accommodation.

“She had been sent for medical examination for rape. After that a case would be registered against unidentified person. We are withholding identity of her fathers and her which mandatory under juvenile Act and she could not reveal house owners name also,” said Shalini Singh to The Pioneer.

“We are carefully examining the credibility of her statement before the CWC,” said SP City Akash Tomar.
