BJP won't stall Spl Session but prefers early Monsoon meet

UPA's move to get Parliament's nod for its much-touted Food Security Bill passed the first hurdle on Sunday with the BJP indicating its readiness to discuss the proposed legislation.

“There are media reports that Government is considering the option of an Ordinance or to convene a Special Session of Parliament. The Ordinance route for such an important legislation is not desirable. We are not opposed to a Special Session of Parliament. However, the better option will be to prepone the Monsoon Session, which is anyway due in July,” said the leader of the Opposition in the lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj.

“We are not opposed to the idea of providing food security to countrymen. It was our Government in Chhattisgarh, which took first significant steps in this direction. We have certain objections to the provisions of the national Bill and we will flag them when the debate takes place inParliament,” the senior BJP leader said.

The principal Opposition wants the Government to replicate Chhattisgarh model of food security because it has been 'tried and tested' on the grounds.

“There is a first hand experience about implement of such scheme. The bottlenecks have been identified and removed. Instead of putting in place a new mechanism for implementation of the scheme, we feel replication of Chhattisgarh model at the national level would be better,” the BJP leader said.
