BJP slams Rahul for ‘lies’, says lockdown halted Covid spread
Published on:

Denouncing Congress and its leader Rahul Gandhi for “double-faced politics” and “telling lies” over coronavirus situation, BJP on Tuesday claimed success in containing the pandemic in the country saying the Modi-Government has brought down the doubling rate of the Covid-19 positive cases and brought it to 12-13 days after March 25 lockdown when the two-fold rise was taking place in two to three days.

The BJP said its Government has provided much more economic package than the former Congress President is demanding from the Government.

Senior BJP leader and information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar accused Rahul of telling “lies” and not knowing “facts” on economic package granted by the Centre to the poor following the country-wide lockdown on March 25. He said 80 crore people were receiving 25 kg wheat and five kg ‘dal’ for five months and 10 crore labourers receiving 10 kg grain and two kg ‘dal’ for free for five months.

He also maintained that 20 crore women have received Rs 500 per month and already Rs 1,500 deposited in the accounts.

The Minister reeled off more figures of aid to poor to say that the Modi-Government has provided many times more economic help to poor than Rs 7,500 monthly sought by the Congress leader at his press conference during the day.

The senior BJP Minister said Congress policy is “negative and the party is cut off from the people and the ground reality”.  The Minister said in the global pandemic situation nation should be speaking in one voice.

The BJP leader said the Government has been successful in containing the pandemic in the country as it has many-times brought down the doubling rate of pandemic growth. Javadekar said he wants to tell Rahul that when the lockdown was announced the rate of positive cases were “doubling within two to three days” but now this is happening “ in 12 to 13 days “, he said adding “ yeh, desh ki safalta hain”.

Javadekar claimed that USA, Brazil, Italy, Britain, France and even China suffered more damage than India did on account of the pandemic. “Therefore Indian lockdown was a “success” and was being highly appreciated all over the world, he said.

He said while world is praising steps taken by the Government, Congress is “habitually opposing them” and this reflects “double-standards” of the Congress, he said.

Referring to Rahul’s comments on the plight of stranded migrants, the Union Minister asked why Congress leader was not taking steps to help them in the Congress-ruled States. “Wo bus majdoor ki samsyayen ki aad main apni rajniti chamkana chahte hain..” ( he wants to shine out, living off miseries of migrant labourers), said Javadekar.

Criticising the Modi-Government, the Congress leader charged it with shoddy management in the aftermath of  the coronavirus crisis and alleged that the Centre was passing  financial burden to States and providing peanut package to poor in the country.
