A day after PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti dropped subtle hints that she was willing to revive the alliance regime with the BJP, former Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh on Saturday said the Government should be formed without wasting any time. While BJP’s central leaders, including party general secretary Ram Madhav, maintained silence, Nirmal Singh told the media in Jammu, “I think that the J&K Government should be formed without wasting time.”
He also claimed people want them to form the Government as they have suffered a lot during the Congress regime. On Friday, Mehbooba Mufti had told a gathering of party workers after kick starting membership drive in Jammu, “I am not afraid” of criticism over joining hands with the BJP but wanted the Centre to send out a “signal” that it will do “everything” for the welfare of people of Jammu & Kashmir.
The PDP chief also held a separate meeting with senior PDP legislators at circuit house to take stock of the current situation. She is expected to chair the meeting of PDP legislature party in Srinagar on Monday. “We are not demanding any fresh CBMs, we are only insisting on time-bound implementation of agenda items listed in the sacred document called Agenda of Alliance,” former PDP Minister Zulfkar Choudhary told the media before attending the meeting with Mehbooba.
Earlier in the day, Mehbooba also claimed that effective development and good governance in Jammu & Kashmir is possible only in an environment of peace and stability which necessitates decisive confidence building measures to be taken by the political leadership in New Delhi.
“Peace and stability is possible only when we revive, with firm resolve and with tangible confidence building measures, the process of reconciliation and engagement in and around Jammu and Kashmir,” Mehbooba said while addressing an impressive gathering of PDP workers at Vijaypur in district Samba. Mehbooba said J&K has huge stakes in peace and stability in the region, as people in both Kashmir and Jammu regions have to suffer enormous human and economic losses because of the hostility.
The state is under Governor’s Rule since January 8, following Mufti Mohd Sayeed’s demise, as Mehbooba did not stake claim to form the Government
