Bitta accuses Cong of political terrorism

Former Youth Congress president Maninderjeet Singh Bitta on Friday accused the Congress of political terrorism and said that it was trying to protect dreaded terrorist Devender Pal Singh Bhullar.

While welcoming the Supreme Court verdict, Bitta questioned why Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal appeared for Bhullar in the past. The All-India Anti-Terrorist Front Chairman claimed that senior Congress leader Ambika Soni had called him up and asked him to go slow on the case.

He even charged Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit of trying to protect Bhullar by declaring him mental.

Bitta, who was the target of Bhullar’s terror attack in 1993, blamed the Government for the inordinate delay in the case as the file kept moving within various Ministries.

He accused some party leaders of working against him and complained against the withdrawal of his security cover. He said that now he will work to ensure that those convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case go to gallows also.

However, the Congress refused to take cognizance of Bitta’s charge with spokesman Rashid Alvi saying that the party respects the Supreme Court’s judgement but would not like to comment on what an individual says.

Reminded that Bitta is not an ordinary individual but a former Youth Congress President and Congress worker, Alvi said that majority of the people in the country support the Congress but that does not mean that the party will support him.
