The producer of the Rani Mukherjee-starrer film Mardaani must be a happy man walking down to the box-office as a senior Bihar Police official has instructed all the State cops to watch the movie to check human trafficking in the State. He also has advised them to take a lesson on the issue of human trafficking by watching the protagonist of the movie.
“Human trafficking is a serious global problem and in Mardaani it has been highlighted in an effective way with the protagonist busting the network of traffickers,” said Arvind Pandey, Inspector General of Police in CID (weaker section).Pandey on Tuesday issued instructions to all district police chiefs, Railway Police SPs and Commandants of Bihar Military Police (BMP) to screen the movie for their subordinate officials to take lessons from it.
“I’ve instructed all the police officials in the districts and otherwise to prompt their subordinate police personnel to watch the movie on human trafficking which involves several aspects like sex trade, organ trade, as well as, child and bonded labour. It has been brilliantly portrayed in Mardaani”, said Pandey.
Pandey further said that a few days back he had gone to watch the movie for entertainment but it ended up as an eye-opener for him and immediately it struck to his mind that all police personnel should watch this movie to understand the nature of human trafficking crime.“The protagonist, Rani Mukherjee, has also been impressive in playing the role,” he said.
“She as an inspector has demolished an entire gang of human traffickers displaying her tact and efficiency,” said the police official. Pandey has been known for his no-nonsense attitude. When asked which part of the protagonist in the film impressed him most, Pandey said that though we too have busted human trafficking networks in Bihar and rescued a large number of children and women, “the way it has portrayed by Rani Mukherjee in the film with her emotions, intelligence and efficiency is commendable”.
In his letter written to all the district police chiefs, Pandey has also said that the messages given in the film are fit to be followed.“Station House Officers and other police officials can increase their efficiency with regard to anti-human trafficking work by following them,” he wrote in his letter. He also informed that even the Supreme Court and High Courts have also given highest priority to the issue of human trafficking. “The Supreme Court recently had asked the cases of all missing children to be treated as cases of human trafficking”, said the IG.
