Bihar top cop in soup over firing at farewell

After the mass transfer of SP-rank IPS officers on the midnight of April 27-28, many SPs went in masti mood and sang and danced at their farewell parties. But Katihar SP Siddhartha Mohan Jain went several steps further and ‘glamourised’ his farewell party by emptying the magazine of his service revolver by firing in the air while singing ‘Sholay’ number.  Jain’s deputation to the CBI has been cancelled after this incident of which video went viral on social media. This was confirmed by Additional Director General of Police (headquarters) SK Singhal on Wednesday.

In the video clip, Katihar DM Mithilesh Kumar and one ADM rank officer were seen singing ‘Sholay’ song “Yeh dosti hum nahi chhorenge…”. Then he took out his service revolver and fired 10 to 12 rounds in the air.  No police official is allowed to fire without any valid reason.

Jain is said to be a habitual “shooter”. Sometimes back, when he was the Aurangabad SP, during inspection of some work site, he had opened fire at a junior engineer who escaped by a whisker.

Many other SPs enjoyed their transfer in their own way. A farewell party for Vaishali SP Rakesh Kumar coincided with his wedding anniversary.  When he told his subordinates that April 30 was also his marriage day the cops swung into action and in no time two big garlands were brought for the couple. Kumar and his wife Priyanka exchanged ‘var mala’ at the stage amid songs at Hajipur.

Other excited cops brought a horse and arranged a band party. The couple occupied the SP’s flower-laden car like bride and groom and the cops played the role of baratis. Kumar had been transferred to Saharsa as SP.

Munger SP Ashish Bharti too celebrated his transfer. At his farewell party, the song “Teri ankhiyon ka yo kajal” sung by Sapna Choudhary was played in full volume. Bharti could not control himself and started singing, dancing and gyrating. This encouraged his subordinates who too joined their outgoing boss.
