West Bengal will become “Bangla” if the Centre clears a proposal passed by the State Assembly which on Thursday unanimously approved the new name.
However, sources said the process is a long drawn one as the renaming would include a Constitutional amendment.
According to the TMC, the CM had been trying to get a new name solely for the purpose of getting the State place higher in the list of States at meetings featuring the Central representatives and those from the States, including the Chief Minister herself.
