N Srinivasan’s desperate attempts to return as BCCI president was thwarted on Friday as the board persuaded him not to reinstate himself. At the same time, the board planned to move the Supreme Court to challenge the Bombay High Court order that declared BCCI-appointed IPl spot-fixing probe committee “illegal and unconstitutional”. The Working Committee meeting , which was to be chaired by the Tamil Nadu strongman, was called off in order to avoid more legal trouble.
Interim BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya will continue to run show till the tangle is resolved.
The decision to call off the Working Committee meeting was taken after a series of discussions among the top BCCI officials amid fears of a revolt against Srinivasan if he tried to force his way.
In the IPl governing council meeting, Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) chief Arun Jaitley explained finer points of the Bombay High Court order and based on which the board decided to move the Supreme Court.
