The head priest of the Ram temple in Ayodhya has created a political stir when he wrote a letter to the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi extending his support to his Bharat Jodo Yatra which entered Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday morning.
The December 31 letter said the Congress leader has the blessings of Lord Ram.
“A Congress leader Gaurav Tiwari Viru asked me to join Bharat Jodo Yatra but as I am not feeling well, I refused. After which he asked me to extend wishes for Bharat Jodo Yatra so I wrote a letter to Rahul and wished him success,” Acharya Das told local reporters after the letter surfaced on the social platform.
In that letter, written in Hindi, Chief priest Das prayed for the success of the campaign (Bharat Jodo Yatra) and wished Rahul success in his work undertaken in the country’s interest. He also prayed for the Congress leader’s good health and long life.
Das Das extended his support to Rahul for uniting the country. “You are working for the noble cause that is ‘sarvajan hitay sarvjan sukhaay’ in the interest of people and for the happiness of the people. I wish the blessings of Lord Ram be upon you always,” it added.
Confirming the letter, Sunil Krishna Gautam, district spokesperson of the Congress in Ayodhya said Das was keen “to participate in the journey however due to health reasons, he gave his moral support to this journey”.
