As CBI casts net wide, Didi to take theatrics to Delhi

With ground beneath her feet slipping fast in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund case after Trinamool MP Srinjoy Bose and senior State Minister Madan Mitra fell in CBI dragnet, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has decided to hit the streets of Delhi and carry the battle directly to the CBI headquarters and 7 Race Course Road, a senior party leader said on Monday.

The Chief Minister will leave for Delhi on December 17 and would camp there for a few days to oversee and even lead the movement against a “vindictive” CBI which is nothing but “his master’s voice,” a senior Trinamool leader said, adding “the master is none but the BJP in general and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular.”

When asked about the programme of the Chief Minister, the leader said Banerjee would lead a rally in Delhi maybe on December 18. She would agitate in front of the CBI office, and there is also proposal to demonstrate at 7 Race Course Road, the official residence of the PM.

“The CBI is not doing anything in other cases. There are many more scams, even bigger ones that have taken place and that are currently under the CBI. But they are not doing anything there. They are only harassing the Trinamool Congress (TMC) because we are fighting against the communal politics of the BJP and we are not falling in line with the Prime Minister’s dictatorial ways,” said the leader, a State Minister. He went to add that if need be the CM could lead her MPs to gherao the residence of the Prime Minister.

On whether Banerjee’s plan would not create an unprecedented crisis with a Chief Minister laying siege to the Prime Minister’s residence, the leader said, “Our leader has always took the bull by the horns. let us see whether the BJP’s vindictive line wins or the Trinamool Congress’ pro-people approach wins.”

The Chief Minister earlier decided to jettison her earlier programmes to block streets and rail traffic following the feedbacks of a growing discontent among the people. Her party men had resorted to statewide blockades in the wake of Mitra’s arrest on Friday.

Banerjee is known to have asked her leaders not to take out rallies after the one that was organised on Monday, which saw a large number of Kolkata clubs, taking part in a long march in what they termed attempts by the Centre to stall the developmental works of the Trinamool Government.
