The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the CBI to ensure that the four officers transferred out of the probe in fodder scam were brought back to prosecute the case against RJD leader lalu Prasad and 44 others.
The four DSPs were transferred by the agency after obtaining an order from the Jharkhand HC on March 7 as the departmental rules do not permit an officer to remain posted at a place for over six years. The SC had put the transfers on hold after JD(U) MP Rajeev Ranjan Singh, alias lallan, in a petition alleged that the move was aimed to weaken the prosecution.
Earlier this month, CBI filed an affidavit informing the court that two of the four officers had even taken up assignment at their new posting. lallan’s counsel informed that this action of CBI was in contempt of the apex court order staying the transfer.
The bench headed by Justice GS Singhvi directed ASG Sidharth luthra, who appeared for CBI, to ensure the four officers were brought back into the case without delay.
