Close on the heels of the recovery of over 100 bodies on the banks of the Ganga in Unnao, another 100 human skeletons were found in gunny bags in a room at Unnao Reserve Police lines on Thursday. Panic gripped Unnao after some TV channels showed about 100 human skeletons in a room at the police lines.
The police have claimed that the skeletons are body parts that were used for crime investigation and left in that room, which was once the store of a police hospital but has been unused and locked up for years. And thus a gruesome pile of bones and skulls has gathered over decades; the remains were never cremated after post-mortems and kept lying there, said a police officer.
“We could not come out with clear picture right now, but a detailed report has been sought by local administration,” Inspector General (law and order) A Satish Ganesh told the media in lucknow on Thursday evening. He said Unnao Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pratap Singh had confirmed the information telecasted by some TV channels. However, he hastily added that until he gets “a detailed report, it is very difficult to initiate any action in the matter.”
Earlier this month, 100 skeletons were found on the banks of the receding Ganga in the town. Officials had then maintained that the bodies were those of unmarried persons who are not cremated.
