The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police has arrested the girlfriend of Rohini jail inmate Sukesh Chandrasekar, for allegedly supporting her partner in duping people.
The accused identified as Leena Maria Paul, who is a South Indian movies actress, was arrested a day after Chandrasekar was produced before a Delhi court and sent to police custody for 16 days.
Sukesh was arrested for allegedly duping Aditi Singh, wife of Shivinder Singh, the former Fortis Healthcare promoter of `200 crore besides ongoing investigations against him in several cases across the country.
A senior police official said that Leena has been arrested under various sections of law including the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
According to the FIR registered at the EOW police station, Aditi alleged that she was cheated of Rs 200 crore by a man posing as a senior official in Union Ministry of law and promising to help her secure bail for her husband, who was in jail at that time, in return for money.
“The person demanded money to get the work done. The man also asked Aditi to contribute to the party fund and assured to set up a meeting either with the former law minister or Union Home Minister,” the FIR stated.
“The case was registered at Special ell but was transferred to EOW for further investigation. During investigation, it was found that Chandrasekar, who was lodged in Rohini Jail, was the mastermind behind the offence,” said a senior police official.
“Chandrasekar was arrested from Rohini Jail while other accused identified as Pradeep Ramdanee and Deepak Ramnani were nabbed after a trap was laid to capture the person getting the delivery of money on 7 and 8 August 2021. During interrogation, it was also revealed that Chandrasekar was running the extortion racket by using mobile phones from inside the jail.
