ABVP likely to sweep DUSU polls

It was a big day for the two coveted universities of the Capital, Delhi University (DU) and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), as they conducted polls for their respective student unions on Friday. While there was a clear wave of the RSS-backed Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at DU, the long standing left organisation All India Students Association (AISA) didn’t get its usual welcome at JNU. Both the universities saw a good amount of voter turnout with almost 43 per cent students at DU coming out to vote in the morning itself and nearly 55 per cent students in JNU casting their votes.

The student union elections at both the colleges are known to be an awaited event as different student unions come and place their agendas for making the university better. This year, however, the Four Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) was an important factor in grabbing attention for either of the universities as AISA, which has usually been only prominent in JNU, got its significant entry in DU with this issue.

The results of the DU election will come out on Saturday while JNU election results will come out on Monday.
