With several women thronging the streets of Geeta Colony, women members of the AAP led a bike rally along with a roadshow on Wednesday. Riding through the streets in the Krishna Nagar Assembly constituency — which is considered a BJP stronghold as Dr Harsh Vardhan won the seat for five consecutive terms and with Kiran Bedi fighting from the same seat — the AAP managed to gather a respectable crowd. Moreover, with party convener Arvind Kejriwal’s mother campaigning with AAP members like Gul Panag and Meera Sanyal, a large number of people stepped out of their shops and houses to don AAP caps.
“I am certain that my son will win with full majority. The BJP is completely shaken up. That is why they are targeting Arvind. But I have faith in him,” said Kejriwal’s mother at the rally. The rally intended to spread the message of women equality. As Panag rode a bullet through the streets of Krishna Nagar, she said, “Women have a right to equality and I believe that there needs to be an acceptance in society over the freedom of women.” The rally even indirectly targeted the BJP with girls carrying banners saying that they “loved their jeans” which was a retort to the comment made recently by a BJP leader asking girls to not wear jeans.
AAP’s Krishna Nagar candidate SK Bagga was also a part of the rally and showed his support for women empowerment.
