AAP MLA shows bribe money, alleges graft in city hospital jobs

Amid ruckus on the third day of the ongoing Winter Session of the Delhi Assembly, AAP MLA from Rithala, Mohinder Goyal, created a flutter in the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday, showing wads of currency notes inside the House alleging corruption at a city Government hospital.

He claimed that a private contractor at the Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini tried to bribe him.

Terming it a serious matter, Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel referred it to the petitions committee of the House.

Earlier, the AAP MLA claimed in the House that he received a bribe of `15 lakh for the recruitment of nursing staff at the Government hospital.

“Money that I showed was given to me as a bribe. `3 lakh was given as token.  I have been raising this corruption issue since January 5,” Goyal said.

The AAP MLA said a tender had been floated for recruitment for many posts including nursing in Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital.

He alleged that contractors were taking money for recruitment to these posts. Waving the note bundle, the MLA said the contractors had attempted to strike a deal with him as well. Goyal said there is a clause for recruitment to various posts in the hospital that 80 per cent of the old employees have to be retained, but this does not happen.

“There is corruption on a large scale in the recruitment. Even after getting the job, the employees do not get the full amount of salary. The contractors take a lot of money from the employees as a share. The employees sat on strike in the hospital over the issues and they were assaulted,” he alleged.

“I deliberately received a bribe of Rs 15 lakh as I wanted to expose the nursing recruitment scam at the Government hospital and unmask the faces behind it. I informed the DCP that I had been offered Rs 15 lakh and wanted the culprit caught red-handed. But no action was taken,” he said

AAP MLA  said he has already reported the matter to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the deputy commissioner of police (DCP), and the chief secretary. They (contractors) attempted to strike a deal with him. Goyal claimed that there was a threat to his life from “powerful” people trying to silence him.

“Despite complaints to DCP, no action was taken against it. I’m risking my life, they’re musclemen. It should be probed. I need protection. My life is in danger. I hope the Delhi Assembly will act on my complaint,” he added. The MLA further said he was not deterred by the threats and demanded action against the private contractor.

Delhi Congress president Anil Chaudhary alleged that the incident in the House was “proof” that the MLA of a ruling party accepts bribes and the AAP is involved in “neck-deep corruption”.
