The Delhi Police on Wednesday recorded statements of the two key eyewitnesses, one from Dausa district of Rajasthan and other from Mundka in West Delhi, in Gajendra’s alleged suicide case, under Section 164 of the CrPC before a magistrate. Their statements will have judicial sanctity. Meanwhile, police provided protection to the two eyewitnesses who claimed that an AAP senior leader had instigated Gajendra Singh to stage a ‘suicide drama’ at Jantar Mantar.
In a related development the Investigating Officer (IO) recreated the sequence of events leading to the tragic demise of Gajendra Singh, a farmer from Rajasthan’s Dausa. Investigations by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police and the video footage suggest that Singh had lost his balance and fell off after three AAP volunteers climbed the branch Singh was resting his foot on.
The Pioneer had reported on Tuesday that the Delhi Police Crime Branch had identified two volunteers who claimed that they had witnessed the whole incident of Singh’s suicide drama.
Both the eyewitnesses aged between 45 and 50 years were AAP’s volunteers and participated in the party’s kisan rally at Jantar Mantar, where Gajendra Singh met a tragic end on April 22. In their statements, they said that they had smoked ‘bidi’ with Gajendra where he told them that he wanted to meet AAP senior leaders and wanted to tell them about the reason of his depression.
They further spotted him in the company of a senior AAP leader. The AAP leader in question, according to their statement, had also promised monetary help to Singh for enacting the drama.
Meanwhile, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police collected raw footage of the incident from the television channels. They have also collected the footage showing AAP’s senior leader Kumar Vishwas reading out purported suicide note of Gajendra from a mobile phone.
The investigators have raised doubts on how Vishwas could read the content without seeing it on mobile phone screen. Sources said it appears that the alleged suicide note was scribbled in haste by those around Gajendra to set up an alibi.
A senior police officer involved in the investigations said on Wednesday that all pieces were being woven together to clear the air about Gajnedra’s death. “Whether it was an accident or suicide will be clear once the probe was over”, the official added.
