A six-year-old boy, who had gone missing from his house, was allegedly murdered and then his body hanged from a tree, after suspected sexual assault, at a secluded spot in Delhi Cantonment area, police said on Wednesday. Earlier a case of abduction was registered at the South Campus police station.
According to the police, the incident came to light around 11.45 AM on Wednesday when a passerby saw the semi-nude body of the boy hanging from a tree and called up the police control room. The limbs of the body were also found to be tied with a rope. A police team rushed the boy to hospital, where he was declared
brought dead. There were injuries on his face and other parts of the body.
The boy’s family identified the body. His father is a labourer and lives in jhuggi cluster in South Campus. According to police, the boy was playing outside the house from where he went missing.
From preliminary investigation, it appears that the boy was allegedly strangulated in the wee hours of the day, after a suspected sexual assault suggested by the condition of the clothes and other vital evidences, and then hanged from the tree with the help of a rope, said the senior officer.
The boy’s father had lodged a missing complaint with South Campus police station. The local police with the help of technical and manual surveillance was looking for the boy. Police suspect the involvement of some known persons. They have questioned neighbours and victim’s relatives.
