A 50-year-old doctor working in a Government hospital was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly raping a 21-year-old patient in a clinic in North-East Delhi's Seelampur area.
Police said the accused Narendra Singh, who was the Chief Medical Officer of Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital was arrested on Wednesday from his house in Seelampur where he used to live with his wife.
“The arrest was made on Wednesday morning following the complaint of the victim. The victim, who is a resident of Rohini, told the police that on May 7, when she was going to visit a relative in Nand Nagri in an auto-rickshaw, she began experiencing acute pain in her stomach. She asked the driver to take her to a nearby hospital. The driver rushed her to JPC Hospital where she was treated by the accused,” a senior police officer said.
After the treatment, Singh asked her to come again on May 9 for a follow up visit. On May 9, he asked her to come again on May 14 for another check up.
“On May 14, the accused took her to the nearby Bansal Ultrasound Clinic, where he gave her water laced with sedatives.
“She became unconscious after that and when she regained consciousness, she found herself in a room where he allegedly raped her,” the officer added.
After raping her, he escaped from the spot leaving her drowsy in the room.
After an hour, she regained consciousness again and made a call to the police control room. Police rushed to the spot and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where the medical examination confirmed rape.
“Based on her complaint, a case was registered at Seelampur Police Station and the accused was arrested from his residence,” an officer said.
Police are also probing the role of Gyanendra, the owner of the ultrasound clinic, who is absconding.
