In a daring daylight robbery,  seven to eight armed men looted 32 kg gold worth Rs10 crore from a branch of Manappuram Finance gold loan bank on the busy New Railway Road in Gurugram on Thursday around 11 am.

The robbers had posed as customers and even wrote their address in the visitors’ register. They first sprayed chemicals on the CCTV camera at the firm’s branch and then overpowered security guard Mukesh Kumar by stabbing him on head. They snatched his bullets and damaged his gun.

Once inside, they took the bank’s staff hostage. Two other persons were injured during the robbery. According to eyewitnesses, the criminals were drunk and they had carried three black bags in which they took away the gold.

DCP Sumit Kumar said, “An alert has been sounded and a police team has been formed to scan the CCTV footage. The robbers will be identified and caught soon.”

Forensics and fingerprint experts have collected evidence and robbers’ pictures will be released soon, said an official.
