Three more minor girls have come forward and lodged complaints that Danish — arrested in rape and murder case of a 16-year-old teenager in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar area — used to molest and stalk them, police said on Tuesday. However, their statements were being verified to take further action, added police.
Police officers said that a police team has been pressed into service to dig up the past of Danish to ascertain whether he is a serial rapist.
The complaints of the three other girls are being verified. “We have not yet registered separate cases but are verifying their statements after which we will take further action,” said the officers.
A 17-year-old girl, a close friend of the deceased, on Monday lodged a complaint with Gandhi Nagar police accusing Danish and his brother Ashu of gangraping her. Both the brothers were arrested following her complaint. Danish used to allegedly exploit her and wanted to befriend her friend with her help, the girl told police. He used to stalk her friend.
Meanwhile, a police official involved in the investigations said Danish confessed to have raped, murdered the teenager and burnt her private parts to conceal sexual assault. Danish used to harass and pester minor girls for sexual favours.
Danish targeted minor girls of the poor families. He used to move around and look out for girls who were vulnerable and lived alone during day time. The girl that he allegedly raped and murdered was one such girl, added the official.
The official added that they have not slapped murder charge against Ashu and are probing whether he had also helped Danish when he was committing the crime.
Danish had told police that he had sexually assaulted the minor girl, strangled her to death and. Meanwhile police said they are awaiting the post-mortem report of the minor girl to get a clear picture.
The partially burnt body of the 16-year-old girl was found inside her home in Gandhi Nagar on Thursday afternoon. Initially, the local police tried to pass off the case as suicide but it was converted into a murder case after the autopsy report revealed that the girl was throttled to death.
The incident came to light after the police control room got a call about a fire in Gandhi Nagar area. Police and fire brigade teams that had rushed to the site to control the blaze, had broken open the room locked from outside and found a partially-burnt body of a girl lying on a cot.
