A Gurugram court on Saturday sentenced 13 former employees of Maruti-Suzuki India limited to life imprisonment in connection with violence at the automobile company’s Manesar plant in 2012. They were held guilty of murder and attempt to murder.
Additional District and Sessions Judge RP Goyal also awarded a jail term of five years each to four others who were found guilty of violence and rioting. As many as 14 other convicts would get released after payment of a fine of Rs2,500 each as they had already served a jail term of more than four years, which, the court said, was “enough punishment for them”.
