Police said that during a late night party in the club Utkarsh slipped into the swimming pool. As Prateek tried to save him, he too slipped into the pool and drowned along with Utkarsh.

As there was no life-saving equipment available at the swimming pool, the efforts of the organisers to save the two students were abortive. later the two students were rushed to a nearby Delhi-based Cross Mall Hospital, where they were declared brought dead. The organisers of the party informed the institute and the parents of the students.
