The second day of Delhi University (DU) admissions on Friday saw more than half the seats being taken by students who secured marks above the cut-off percentage at Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC). The college has 500 seats for B.Com (Honours) and Economics (Honours). According to SRCC officials, the college may not release its second cut-off list as the seats will be filled up soon, eliminating the need for bringing out the second list.
The college administration confirmed that 335 out of the 500 seats had already been filled and the remaining seats were expected to be filled up by Saturday. It was the same situation in other Delhi University (DU) colleges.   DU has 54,000 seats in various disciplines for which it received a record 3.7 lakh applications. Students who have made the cut need to complete formalities for admission by 1 pm on June 27, a DU official said. The second cut-off list will be released on June 30, he added.
However, the absurdly high cut-off percentages at DU have not gone down well with aspirants who are dejected at the prospect of missing the bus. Sensing the mood of students seeking admissions to the 77 colleges in DU, the university on Friday accepted that its first cut-off list was “unrealistically high” in order to avoid “over-admissions” but maintained that the students should not panic as there were plenty of seats to accommodate them and further lists will be more realistic.
Accepting that the first cut-off list is “unrealistic”, a senior DU official said, “The first cut-off list is always theoretically generated on the basis of the number of applications where primarily every candidate has applied to every college”. “As the number of students taking admission after the release of the first cut-off list will become clear on Saturday, the students will get to know that there are plenty of seats to accommodate them and that the subsequent
cut-off lists will be more realistic,” he added.
Percentages in the first cut-off list for DU’s undergraduate courses yet again “sky-rocketed” with two colleges this time setting the threshold at 100 per cent for admission to the B.Sc (Computer Science) course.Prestigious Hindu College that has 752 seats for undergraduate courses has admitted 270 students, said Anju Srivastva, Principal, Hindu College.
Gargi College in South Campus confirmed on Friday that 550 admissions were done on the second day while on day one, nearly 250 students got admission.  “The high cut-off will not be much of an issue for aspirants who are seeking admission to our college. Our college has 1,364 seats for undergraduate courses and the college will release the second cut-off list on the decided date,” the official added.
Miranda House will not release a second cut-off list for History, Geography, Sociology and Political Science. “We have already done half of the admissions. Approximately 500 students got admission for the 1,000 seats that we have for our undergraduate courses,” said Pratibha Jolly, Principal, Miranda House.
The prestigious lady Shri Ram College for Women that has 700 seats admitted 250 students till Friday.
At Kamla Nehru College that has 869 seats, nearly 200 admissions have been confirmed.Popular for evening studies, Shaeed Bhagat Singh College filled only 90 seats while it has 741 seats. In the morning college, 400 admissions have been confirmed by PK Khurana, Principal of the college. The college has 953 seats only.
Maharaja Agrasen College has confirmed 75 admissions only while the college has a total of 650 seats. According to the source, 30 students got admission in Political Science and 15 seats of B.Com have been filled.Meanwhile 220 students got admissions in B.Com (Honours) in Rajdhani College.
