A Class X student of a Delhi Government school was allegedly murdered by a group of students on the school premises in Jyoti Nagar area of Northeast Delhi on Wednesday. Initial probe has revealed that the 17-year old boy was beaten to death over personal enmity, police said on Thursday.
A scuffle between the victim and a group of students at Jyoti Nagar’s SKV School ensued into the horrific incident leading to fatal injuries to the boy. When policemen reached the spot, they found him lying badly injured, said a police officer. His brother Gobinda brought him to GTB Hospital, where he was declared brought dead, a police official said.
“He was staying with his parents in Babarpur. He had gone to meet his class teacher,” the officer added. “A murder case has been registered. Some students are being questioned. The cause of death will be ascertained after autopsy,” the police officer said.
The boy had gone to school with his mother and cousin to collect his Transfer Certificate. However, his mother who was not feeling good returned home midway.
The victim and his cousin Hairaj did not receive the certificate after which Hairaj went to drink water inside the school building while the victim was waiting for Hairaj at the school gate.
Suddenly a group of 14-15 students came to argue with the boy. The altercation deteriorated into fisticuffs. But the group of students overpowered the victim and beat him black and blue, said sources.
“Nearly 14-15 boys took him to the nearby park by holding his neck and brutally hitting him on his chest and stomach. Two of the guys pressed his neck and mouth so that he could not breath. Others thrashed him brutally. I had just returned from work when I got a call from my brother’s number,” said Gobinda.
Following the call, Gobinda rushed to the school and took his brother to nearby GTB Hospital but to no avail.
Gobinda said most of the accused were drug addicts and they had fought with his younger brother earlier also. He said he didn’t ever think that the students would be harbouring revenge on his brother for so long.
“last to last Sunday, he told me that he had a scuffle with some boys of the school. I asked him not to get involved with them. After that I met two of my brother’s friends and asked them to reach a compromise and become friends. But I never thought that they will kill my brother one day,” Gobinda said.
“My brother was a very calm and hard-working boy. He wanted to become a Government officer,” the victim’s brother said.
“My brother was kind-hearted. He used to do part time job in a bangle-making shop to help the family. They have shattered our dream and taken away the happiness of our family by killing my brother. Humari maa is haadse ki baat se sadme mai chali gayi hain (My mother is in deep agony after hearing the tragedy). We seek death penalty for the accused as this is a planned murder,” said Gobinda.
