Sangh distances itself from report calling Infosys ‘anti-national’

The RSS on Sunday distanced itself from an article that appeared in a magazine associated with the organisation, Panchjanya, which alleged that Indian software major, Infosys, was with “anti-national” forces and messed up the Government’s Income Tax portal.

In the latest edition of the journal  which is  also  considered a mouthpiece of the RSS, a cover story on the Bengaluru-based firm founded by Narayana Murthy seeks to raise  the question whether an “anti-national power” is trying to hurt India’s economic interests through it.

The all-India Prachaar Pramukh of the RSS Sunil Ambeka took  to Twitter to clarify the organisation’s position vis-a-vis the article and its allegations against Infosys.

Ambekar tweeted that the views expressed in the piece are not of the organisation but that of the author.

“As an Indian company, Infosys has made seminal contribution in the progress of the country. There might be certain issues with a portal run by Infosys, but the article published by Panchjanya in this context only reflects individual opinion of the author,” he tweeted adding that “Panchjanya is not a mouthpiece of the RSS and the said article or opinions expressed in it should not be linked with the RSS.”

The article has alleged that Infosys had badly messed up not just the income tax and Goods and Services Tax portals, for which it is the technology vendor, but that Infosys Trust, through its other activities including funding was encouraging forces inimical to the security of India, and encouraging “urban naxals” et al.

RSS distancing may reflect a difference of opinion within the Sangh Parivar or approach of looking at the issue, sources said.

But RSS in-house magazine targeting Infosys also points to support from within.

‘Panchajanya’  demanded  accountability for the errors  that cropped up in the new income tax filing portal developed by Infosys, days after the company’s CEO, Salil Parekh was reportedly summoned by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and given a deadline until September 15 to reset the software.
