Zidane: He came, he saw, he conquered

Real Madrid were in complete disarray when Zinedine Zidane replaced Rafa Benitez at the beginning of 2016. Real were still fresh from the 0-4 thumping by Barcelona and were virtually out of the la liga title race.

With little to no experience at the top level of coaching, Zidane, who was in charge of club's second team Real Madrid Castilla, had a huge job at his hands to regroup the struggling squad.

The Frenchman was up for the challenge and made his first mark, beating Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou in a remarkable come-from-behind victory.

Then, he guided Real to the Champions league Final against their derby rivals Atletico Madrid. It wasn’t pretty, but Zidane’s Madrid did the job to eke out a penalty shoot-out victory.

The following season was the best of his tenure. Real won the la liga title after a long wait and Zidane became the first manager to successfully defend the latest Champions league title.

In his final season, he was unable to defend the league title, but made up for it, by securing an unprecedented third Champions league crown. Overall, he won nine titles in Real – 3 UCl, 2 Super Cup, 2 Club World Cup and one each la liga and Supercopa.

Zidane’s playing style was as simple as the man himself. There wasn’t any specific definitive style and the team would normally shift their shape and formation according to the situation, making them incredibly versatile.

He might not be regarded as a tactical genius like Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp, but nonetheless, he will be always regarded as one of the greatest managers of modern era.

The man who terrorized the world during his playing days has arrived in a similar mould as a manager. Now the whole world will be fighting to secure his services.
