Amangal Sutra of Trolling

Amangal Sutra of Trolling
Published on:
Trolling has become a ritual in India. Everything and anything has to be trolled; there are those who are looking for their 30-second fame on social media. So, it came as no surprise that recently Sonam Kapoor Ahuja was trolled for wearing mangalsutra on her wrist instead of traditionally wearing it around her neck.
Our’s is a democracy and one has the freedom of expression. But the question here is how much freedom should one getIJ Should one have the freedom to comment on what an unconnected personality is doing in her personal lifeIJ It is not as if the person trolling Ms Kapoor is a friend who has the right to make a personal comment nor is the person a custodian of Indian culture. Assuming that the person is a self-proclaimed overseer, then where is he when there is news of a woman being beaten upIJ Where is he when a woman is raped and murdered and her body thrown into the wildsIJ Where is this person when women take to the streets to protest crime against womenIJ
And what does sacred institution of marriage meanIJ Does it only mean wearing a mangalsutra around the neck and putting sindoorIJ Or does it mean respecting the relationship and carving out a life together in harmony and loveIJ While, of course, the mangalsutra can stay on the wrist!
