Navaratri's later days turn toward abundance, but not without a condition attached.
Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity, is invoked only after Durga's strength and Saraswati's wisdom have already been sought, never on her own, isolated from the two. This sequence is deliberate. Wealth pursued without strength of character or wisdom of judgment rarely remains stable, and often brings more anxiety than peace. Prosperity that arrives before character often leaves quickly, taking peace with it.
Many stories describe Lakshmi as restless, moving quickly from homes and hands that hoard her carelessly or acquire her dishonestly, favoring instead spaces of integrity, generosity, and right effort. She is pictured seated on a lotus, which rises clean from the mud, and coins are shown flowing from her open hand, a reminder that wealth is meant to move and to serve, not merely to be locked away. Money earned honestly and used generously brings a different kind of comfort from money merely gathered. Two people with the same income can live with very different peace of mind, depending on how it was earned and what it is used for.
We frequently chase prosperity as an isolated goal, believing wealth alone will resolve our deeper anxieties, without first building the character and clarity required to hold it well.
This Navaratri, examine one goal you're pursuing purely for gain, and ask whether you've first built the wisdom and integrity needed to hold that success well, once it arrives.
