The Sun Does Not Procrastinate

The sun has never once waited until it felt ready to rise.

Every morning, with no applause and no reminder, the sun appears on schedule. It does not negotiate with clouds, wait for a better mood, or postpone its journey because the previous day was tiring. Our tradition calls it Savita, the one who impels all beings into action, and the Gayatri mantra asks for the same inspiration: “Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat”, may that light impel our understanding.

The Valmiki Ramayana records a moment on the battlefield when Rama, weary and thoughtful as he faced Ravana, was met by the sage Agastya. He taught him the Aditya Hridayam, a hymn to the sun. Rama sipped water, chanted it three times, and his energy and clarity returned. The tradition says he then went forward and won.

Procrastination often hides behind waiting for the right mood. The sun teaches that the mood follows the act, and that strength is renewed by beginning, not by waiting.

Tomorrow morning, before sunrise or within the first hour, choose the one task you have been delaying. Begin it for just fifteen minutes. Offer the effort to the rising sun with folded hands and let it carry the momentum for the rest of your day.
