Navaratri also carries the reminder that our fiercest battles are rarely against others.
Mahishasura, a demon who could not be defeated by any male god, having secured that particular boon through years of penance, terrorized the heavens until the combined energies of all the gods converged into a single, radiant being, Durga, who alone possessed the power to end his reign. It was not brute strength that made her invincible, but the unification of scattered powers into one focused will.
Each god gave something of his own: Shiva his trident, Vishnu his discus, and the mountains the lion she rode. None of them alone could have ended Mahishasura; together they became a force he had never planned for. Her victory is a picture of what undivided attention can do.
Mahishasura's boon reveals his real flaw. He had prepared for every threat he could imagine, except the one born of unity itself. His downfall came from what he underestimated, not what he failed to guard against.
We often scatter our own energy across many small distractions, worries, ambitions, comparisons, weakening ourselves against challenges that require our full, undivided strength to overcome. Exhaustion and indecision rarely come from one great enemy. They come from many small ones pulling us in different directions.
This Navaratri, identify one area of your life where your energy feels fragmented, and consciously bring it together, like the gods once did, into a single, focused resolve.
