Former world champion boxer Zolani Tete shot dead in car; South Africa

Former world champion boxer Zolani Tete was shot dead at his home in South Africa, government officials said on Friday.
South Africa’s Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie said the 38-year-old boxer was killed in his car. A 27-year-old woman who was with him was also shot multiple times and remains hospitalised.
Tete won the WBF flyweight world title in 2007 and 2008 before claiming the WBO bantamweight championship in 2017 and 2019.
According to police, the shooting occurred in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape. Tete was reportedly arriving at his residence and waiting for the gate to open when two armed men wearing balaclavas ambushed him.
