Wife stabbed with scissors in Jagatpuri, husband absconding

A 54-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 50-year-old wife in the neck with a pair of scissors at their residence in East Delhi’s Jagatpuri area on Wednesday night.

The man fled the scene before police arrived. A PCR call reporting the murder was received at Jagatpuri police station at around 9 pm, and multiple teams are now searching for the absconding accused. The deceased has been identified as Komal, 50. Her husband, the accused, has been identified as Kamal, 54. The FIR has been registered on the basis of the statement of the couple’s son, Gaurav, at Jagatpuri police station.

Police personnel, including the SHO and the investigating officer, rushed to the address after the PCR call was received and found Komal lying dead on the floor. The crime team inspected the scene and collected evidence. The body was shifted to Dr Hedgewar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead, and was subsequently sent to the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

The case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with the offence of murder. Investigators have launched a search operation to trace Kamal, who remains absconding. Police said multiple teams are working to locate him.The exact motive behind the killing has not yet been established. Police said they are examining all possible angles and are awaiting the post-mortem report, which is expected to provide further clarity on the cause of death and the specific nature of the injuries.

The incident fits a grim pattern of domestic violence resulting in death that has marked Delhi’s crime calendar in recent weeks. Wednesday night’s Jagatpuri incident is distinct from both of those cases in that the weapon was not a firearm but a household item, a pair of scissors, which makes the attack a matter of close-range physical violence in a domestic space. The use of scissors also means the attack was sustained rather than instantaneous, and the post-mortem findings on the wound to the neck are expected to be significant for the investigation’s account of what happened.

The fact that the accused fled the scene and has not been found as of the time of reporting suggests either that he had a plan for his movements after the attack or that the flight was panicked and unplanned.
