What does a prayer become when someone truly hears it?
It began in the poor fishing village where Amma was born in 1953. As a young girl, she helped all who came to her with their sorrows. Sharing food with hungry children at school. Caring for the elderly abandoned by their families. Giving what little money she could to people in debt. As she wiped away the tears, their prayers became Amma’s prayers.
Her humanitarian work begins with immediate aid for those who share their hardships. She then builds massive humanitarian solutions that transcend political, regional, linguistic and religious differences. Amma’s initiatives have become a global spiritual and humanitarian movement that reaches more than 50 countries.
Amma truly embodies the ancient concept of Universal Motherhood. It is a love and compassion felt not only towards one’s own children, but towards all people, animals and plants, rocks and rivers - a love extended to all of nature. Indeed, to a woman in whom the state of true motherhood has awakened, all creatures are her children.
