Videotex gets Google TV certification, targets Rs 800 crore

Noida-based television manufacturer Videotex has received Google TV original design manufacturer certification, allowing it to build and supply Google TV-powered smart televisions for brands in India.
The company expects the certification to help expand its television original design manufacturing business to around Rs 800 crore over the next two to three years, up from its current turnover of about Rs 450 crore.
Videotex Director Arjun Bajaj said the certification would allow Indian and regional television brands to source Google TV-powered sets locally instead of depending heavily on Chinese suppliers and original design manufacturers. The company is already in discussions with several brands and expects to add a few to its portfolio by the end of the year.
Videotex, which has more than four decades of experience in television manufacturing, currently has an annual production capacity of 2.2 million TV units. It works with LG’s WebOS ecosystem and partnered with Samsung’s Tizen platform last year.
The company also plans to diversify into large appliances, with its first new category expected to enter mass production by the end of this year.
Bajaj said demand is increasingly shifting towards larger television sizes, particularly 43-inch, 55-inch and 65-inch models. He expects strong growth in the large-screen and 4K segments next year.
Videotex is also exploring export opportunities as India strengthens its local electronics manufacturing ecosystem. The company operates two research and development centres and is considering further capacity expansion.
