US Ambassador Sergio Gor Says America, Assam to explore more commercial partnerships

US Ambassador Sergio Gor on Tuesday said the United States and Assam will work towards identifying new commercial opportunities that benefit both sides, signalling stronger economic engagement with the northeastern state.
The ambassador was in Guwahati to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who scripted history by becoming the first BJP leader and the only non-Congress chief minister to return to power for a second consecutive term in the state.
Sharing his message on social media, Sergio Gor said he was honoured to attend the ceremony and highlighted the growing commercial relationship between the United States and Assam.
“The United States and Assam have many commercial ties, and with the Chief Minister’s leadership we will identify many more win-win scenarios for both of our nations,” he said.
Along with Himanta Biswa Sarma, four legislators also took oath as ministers in the new Assam cabinet. They include BJP leaders Rameswar Teli and Ajanta Neog, AGP chief Atul Bora, and BPF MLA Charan Boro.
The grand swearing-in ceremony, held at the Veterinary College Field in Khanapara, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, among other senior leaders and dignitaries.
Several diplomats and leading industrialists were also present at the event, underlining Assam’s growing strategic and economic significance in the region.
