UP Student found dead in Kota coaching hub room

A 17-year-old student from Uttar Pradesh was found dead in his hostel room in Rajasthan’s coaching hub Kota on Thursday, police said, marking another tragic incident in the city known for its competitive exam preparation centres.
According to police officials, the student was found hanging in his room. No suicide note has been recovered so far, and the exact reason behind the death remains unclear.
Jawaharlal, a local police officer, said the student had been in Kota for the past two years and was preparing for engineering entrance examinations at a residential coaching institute. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, which will be conducted after the arrival of the student’s family.
Police added that investigations are underway and statements from friends and acquaintances are being recorded to determine the circumstances leading to the incident.
Kota, widely regarded as India’s coaching capital, attracts thousands of students every year from across the country. However, the city has also witnessed repeated cases of student suicides, raising ongoing concerns about academic pressure and mental health support in competitive coaching environments.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether any foul play is suspected in the latest case.
