Class 5 student allegedly molested by teacher in Ballia; accused arrested

A 50-year-old teacher at a government composite school in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district was arrested on Sunday, August 30, for allegedly molesting a Class 5 student, police said.
An FIR was registered against the teacher, Manoj Rai, on Sunday based on a complaint filed by the student's mother, police said.
The case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to police, the incident took place on Thursday when the minor had gone to attend classes at the composite school in a village under the Sukhpara police station area.
The accused teacher allegedly committed obscene acts and molested the girl, police said.
Sukhpara Station House Officer Ratnesh Dubey confirmed that Rai had been arrested in connection with the case.
District Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Manish Kumar Singh said he was aware of the incident and had sought a report from the Block Education Officer.
He said departmental action would be initiated against the teacher after the report is submitted.
