Udhayanidhi accuses Tamil Nadu CM Vijay of diversionary tactics

Tamil Nadu Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday accused Chief Minister Joseph C Vijay of resorting to "diversionary tactics" after his strong criticism of the DMK in the Assembly. Udhayanidhi alleged that Vijay failed to respond to specific questions on the state's law and order situation.

Speaking to reporters after the main opposition party walked out of the House, Udhayanidhi also accused the chief minister of protecting a "shadow cartel" allegedly run by his close aides to monopolise state mining contracts. He dismissed Vijay's Assembly speech as a "memorised cinema script."

Udhayanidhi said Vijay had "resorted to diversionary tactics" instead of responding to the 15 specific questions he had raised on the state's "deteriorating law and order", including recent daylight murders in the state.

He alleged that Vijay shifted the focus to decades-old matters, including the Sarkaria Commission and MISA, while also reading out pending Enforcement Directorate charges against opposition leaders.  (with inputs from PTI)
