Two killed, one hurt as scooter hits parked truck on Dwarka Expressway
Two people were killed and another seriously injured after a speeding scooter rammed into a Canter truck parked on the Dwarka Expressway flyover without reflectors or indicators, police said Sunday, August 9.
The accident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Saturday near BPTP Society, when the scooter, carrying two women and a man, crashed into the rear of the stationary truck, police said.
According to a complaint filed by commuter Pankaj Swami, the Canter was parked in the middle of the flyover without any road safety equipment, including reflectors, cones or emergency lights. Due to darkness and the sudden appearance of the truck, the scooter rider failed to spot it and crashed into its rear, the complaint alleged.
The impact threw all three occupants onto the road, leaving them seriously injured. Passers-by rushed them to a hospital, where a man and a woman succumbed to their injuries during treatment on Sunday morning, police said.
The deceased were identified as Lakshya Gehlot, a resident of Kakrola village in Delhi, and Nidhi, a resident of Vikas Nagar in Uttam Nagar, Delhi.
The third occupant, Ankita Kumari, a resident of Kotla Vihar in New Delhi, remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment, police said.
An FIR has been registered at Bajghera police station against the Canter driver for allegedly parking the vehicle negligently and causing death, police said.
"We are examining CCTV footage from the vicinity of the accident site to identify the absconding driver and arrest him as soon as possible," a senior police officer said.
The bodies were handed over to relatives after post-mortem examination, police said.
