TVK names ex-AIADMK MLAs as candidates for Madurantakam, Dharapuram by-polls

TVK chief C Joseph Vijay on Thursday named former AIADMK MLAs K Maragatham Kumaravel and P Sathyabama as the party's candidates for the October 6 by-elections in the Madurantakam and Dharapuram reserved constituencies in Tamil Nadu.
The bypolls in both constituencies will be contested under the banner of the “Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance”, according to an official press release issued by the party.
Maragatham Kumaravel, a former AIADMK MLA and currently TVK deputy general secretary, will contest from Madurantakam (SC), while Sathyabama, also a former AIADMK legislator and now the TVK's Tiruppur south-east district secretary, has been fielded from Dharapuram (SC).
Both had won the respective constituencies on AIADMK tickets in the 2026 Assembly election before resigning as MLAs and subsequently joining the ruling TVK.
Urging party functionaries and cadres to work for the victory of the candidates, Vijay called for a decisive mandate in the bypolls.
“I kindly request all party office-bearers and comrades to gather votes for our winning candidates with victory as the sole objective, ensuring a historically significant triumph,” he said.
The by-elections in the two reserved constituencies are scheduled for October 6.
